Women and Marriage in Islam

(Assorted ahadith)

Assalam olaikum,

Al-Quran is full of wisdom and if one really wishes to reap benefit from it, one should try to understand the meaning of its verses and put it into practice in our day-to day life.

The life of the Prophet (saw) and his sayings are also considered to be a source through which we can appease Allah (swt).

Here are a few assorted ahadith pertaining to women and marriage, in Islam.

Prophet Mohammad (saw) said, ‘Whoever marries a woman only for her power and position, Allah will only increase him in humiliation. Whoever marries a woman only for her wealth Allah will only increase him in poverty. Whoever marries a woman only for her beauty, Allah will only increase him in ugliness. However, whoever marries a woman so that he may restrain his eyes, observe cautiousness and treat his relations kindly; Allah puts a blessing in her for him and in him for her.

Narrated Anas (ra) that Prophet Mohammad (saw) said, ‘When a man marries, he has fulfilled half of his religion, so let him fear Allah about the remaining half’.

Hazrat Ayesha (ra) was asked, ‘What did the Prophet do in his house? To which she replied, ‘He used to keep himself busy serving his family and when it was the time for As-Salaat (prayer) he would go for it’

The above mentioned ahadith are just a few in number but they are like an ocean full of wisdom. Each hadith deals with the topic of marriage in a different way and shows the Muslims the right way of dealing with this important aspect of life instead of just getting carried away by the frivolities of life.
