Assalam o alaikum,

Assalam o alaikum,
Allah (swt) says in the Holy Quran:
“And give the relative his right and also the poor and the traveler and do not spend extravagantly” (TMQ-17:26)
In the next verse Allah (swt) says:
“Indeed, the wasteful are brothers of devils and ever has satan been to his Lord, ungrateful” (TMQ-17:27)
So whereas one hand Islam prohibits wasteful expenditure by the wealthy people on the other hand it encourages charity. This creates a sense of brotherhood and strikes a balance in the society wherein the affluent class understands that the wealth they own in this world has been granted to them by Allah (swt) as a gift or amanat. The rich will be answerable to Allah (swt) on the Day of Judgment about the way in which they had spend Allah (swt)’s amanat.
There are some ahadith which also discourage squandering of wealth.
Prophet Mohammad (saw) said, “When you eat, drink, give charity and wear clothes, let no pride or extravagance be mixed up with what you do. (Ibn Maja, Nasai)
Au Huraira narrated that Prophet Mohammad (saw) said, ‘Every day 2 angels come down from heaven and one of them says, ‘O Allah! Compensate every person who spends in your cause and the other angel says, ‘O Allah! Destroy every miser!’

Therefore, Islam teaches mankind to replace low morals, selfishness, miserliness and greed by high ideals of selflessness, brotherhood and charity.
